I attended a wonderful conference today at Sunrise Hospital Medical Center, Las Vegas, NV. The Social and Emotional Developmental Issues Conference was sponsored by the hospital and the presenters were: Dr. Johanna Fricke, Dr. Colleen Morris, Dr. Julie Beasley, Dr. Joe Kithas and Skip Jourdan who spoke about financial planning for children with special needs.
I found several statistics very interesting and I want to share them with you.
Did you know that 60-80% of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are mentally retarded?
Did you know that 40-60% of children with ASD develop seizures?
Did you know recurrence of ASD in a family is 6% if one child has ASD?
Did you know 15% of children with Fragile X also have autism?
Did you know 50% of child with ASD are non-verbal?
Did you know that your pediatrician is legally obligated to screen all children for ASD? (There are several simple/quick screening protocols.)
This is my favorite of all of the statistics!
Did you know that 87% of the time that a parent has a concern about their child’s development ~ THEY ARE RIGHT. You go, parents! You know your child the best and now statistics prove it.
