Las Vegas Tenors perform on the Fourth of July

The Las Vegas Tenors, Bobby Black, Chris Riggins, and Corwyn Hodge performed a

magnificant Fourth of July concert at the South Point, Las Vegas, NV for an early

afternoon spectacular. The fireworks, presented in the form of musical selections,

celebrated our troops, country, history, boy bands, pop, and opera.

Bobby, thank you for Bring Him Home.

America the Beautiful brought the house to it’s feet,

and two special guests from American Idol and The Jersey Boys

sparked the audience with glee for their performances.

From the first note to the last,

the Las Vegas Tenors certainly exploded on stage with fireworks to remember.

They can be followed on Facebook and their bio can be read on The Tenor Site.

Your Little Firecracker with ASD/autism

I’m You Little Firecracker

by

Kathie Harrington

I’m your little firecracker

sometimes waiting to explode.

You never know when those times come

bet you wish you had my code.

I light up like a sparkler

when things don’t go my way.

I throw myself down to the ground

until I feel okay.

When I see spinning flowers,

round and round I go.

I make myself so dizzy.

I can put on quite the show.

Smoke can often emerge from me

like it’s coming out my ears.

Sometimes when those things happen

I rule my own inner fears.

The displays I show to express myself,

they’re not always what they seem.

I just don’t understand life,

that is why I need you on my team.

I need to have you teach me

to take turns with all the rest.

I want to imitate your style.

I try to do my best.

I want to know the difference

between laughter and a tear.

I beg to feel them in my heart

every time my mommy’s near.

I want to live as you do,

to look up in the sky

not to be afraid of fireworks

and enjoy their beauty way up high.

For now, I am that firecracker

imprisoned in its shell.

Please ignite my beauty

I can’t wait to live so well.

I wrote this in the voice of a child to his/her speech therapist, teachers, and parents.

Enjoy and share.

Green River at the Princess Cafe in Iowa Falls, IA

Green River

A Green River at the Princess Cafe in Iowa Falls, Ia is like a holiday to me. The green liquid bubbles shimmer in the fountain-style glass as it’s placed on the jet black countertop. I love it and the memories it evokes soak my mind.

The Princess–Sweet Shop is an outstanding example of Art Deco design from 1935. The Carrara glass façade, and streamlined woodwork are typical of Art Deco design of the 1920s and 1930s, but a rarity in a small town in Iowa. This building replaced a brick building, which burned on Christmas day 1934. The owners displayed a great deal of faith in the architect, and in the people of Iowa Falls too. The community was somewhat surprised when a drawing of the new façade was released to the newspaper. Not only was the design modern, both inside and out, but the equipment was utmost in efficiency and convenience. It was the first building in town to be air-conditioned. Gas ranges replaced the old wood and coal stoves that had been used before the fire, and gas water heaters provided sufficient water for the washing and sterilizing of the dishes. The total cost for the building and equipment of the Princess was approximately $30,000, a surprising amount during the years of the Great Depression. (read more and see the pictures right here)

If your travels take you to Iowa Falls, you must visit the Princess.  Don’t go there without ordering a Green River, however. And when you do, dedicate one sip to me, then enjoy the rest all by yourself.

Don’t buy into Valentine’s Day

On our wedding day, 1967

Yes, this is my Valentine, Tim, and we have exchanged our share of Valentine’s Day gifts since before our wedding day in 1967. This year, when I look at the statistics: men will spend an average of $159.00 and women will spend an average of $75.00, with all of America spending over $16 billion dollars on this day, I wonder.

Not that a day of love is not important ~ it is ~ but maybe we can do acts of love for each other instead of buying love. Why, we could even try doing acts of love for strangers. Think of the world we would live in then. We would have not only a day of love but love all year long.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you
to those you love
and to those you meet.
